Outsourcing copywriting to a professional doesn’t cost as much as you might think

Honest Communications, a specialist garden and home PR agency, social media management, content creation and communications agency

This blog post is a thinly veiled attempt to justify why you should pay professionals (like us) to write your words for you. We’ve already exposed our ulterior motive, but bear with us, there’s something in it for you too.

A common misconception is that because everyone can write, anyone can produce good copy. Good copy can be powerful – it can harness attention, change opinions and behaviours and it can make people feel. Bland copy will achieve none of the above, rendering it useless. Just ‘having a presence’ online isn’t good enough anymore. You need to present the best version of your company which means, at the most basic level, good imagery and good words . Communicating the right message in the right way, at the right time, to the right people takes research, strategy and expertise. We’ve got lots of experience helping our clients to tell their stories effectively, it’s what we do best!

Chances are, if you’re thinking of outsourcing your social media posting, blog writing or website copy to someone else, writing isn’t what you do for a living, nor is it something you have time to be doing. You need to be focussing on what you’re good at, and not getting bogged down in copywriting! Outsourcing copywriting frees you up to truly focus on your job, not only that but you then get copy experts handling your work so are likely to get better results, without any of the effort on your part which is where we come in!

In a world where content is everywhere and attention is fickle and fleeting, you need your words to hit the mark. Writing good copy takes time, especially if you don’t write for a living. We all know time is money, so it follows that spending your time on what you’re good at is wise. Do what you do best, outsource the rest. That’s where we can help you (with the writing at least).

We’ve told you there would be something in it for you and, true to our word, here are some helpful snippets of advice for you, to help you write copy with impact:

• Write naturally and use plain English – remember you are the expert and your reader might not be so don’t trip them up with your OTT vocabulary.

• Write for someone specific – write for them the way you would speak to them if they were in front of you.

• Write in the present tense and the active voice: ‘Pandas adore bamboo’’, instead of ‘The bamboo is adored by pandas’.

• Before you start writing, think about your structure and plan it out. Create a framework outlining what you want to say, and in what order

This all sounds simple enough, right? But trust us, it takes some practise.

If you think your time would be better spent doing your day job instead of trying to write, come speak to us at Honest.

We can chat through exactly what you want to say, how to say it and the best place to publish it, meaning you get the best possible bang for your buck as well as maximising opportunities for how to reuse content once you have created it. We’ll come up with a strategy based on your objectives and action it out for you, freeing you up to do what you do best.

We might be biased, but that sounds like value for money to us. If you agree then get in touch! Email hello@honestcommunciations.co.uk or call 01332 653693.
