Emma’s first two weeks at Honest

Honest Communications, a specialist garden and home PR agency, social media management, content creation and communications agency

Hi, it’s Emma here!

I have just completed my first two weeks at Honest and I have no idea where the time has gone! From day one I have felt incredibly welcomed into the team, and by the end of the first week felt like I’d been working here for years.

For the last two years I’ve been working independently in a role that was heavily social media and content based so it’s taking a little time to adjust to the world of an agency, working alongside others and on a variety of different tasks in a faster paced environment.  However, I have really enjoyed my first couple of weeks at Honest, so here’s an overview of what I’ve been up to since I started.

Week One

During the first week, Holly, Fay and Beth spent time getting me up to speed with our clients, their products and what we do for them. It was so interesting to learn more about these companies, their competitors and sectors.

My first few tasks for the week were incredibly varied, from working alongside Holly on end of month reports and writing my first Honest press release, to becoming an expert on bat boxes for a presentation. I also got very invested in the world of greenhouses for a research task and never knew how interesting they could be.

At the end of my first week, we had the Honest Christmas party. Yes, a Christmas party in August! Holly and the team invited me to their postponed Christmas party on Friday, which was an outdoor cinema night at Calke Abbey watching Rocket Man. We had the best time with lots of snacks, plenty of prosecco and I even treated everyone to my signature chocolate orange brownies. Beth went to town with her outfit, featuring a lovely red feather boa and heart shaped glasses and won the prize for best dressed.

Week Two

Week two was a busy one! We started the week with internal meetings, having a catch up with each other about our plans for the week ahead. For the most part this was checking what work has been done and upcoming deadlines, it never stops here at Honest. Tuesday was content day; we each had a few hours on Tuesday morning to gather some content for socials – for Honest and our clients. I tried my hand at making a reel of watering my orchid, who knew it was so hard to film and water a plant in the right place at the same time! I then met Hope at Allestree Park to get some content of their rewilding project before heading back to the office for the rest of the day. In the afternoon we gathered in our shared kitchen at the office for a brainstorm session. Going back to the theme of Christmas we were brainstorming ideas for Christmas gift guides, ready to prep and send out to journalists. It feels odd talking about Christmas so early in the year and on such a sunny day, but in the journalism world it’s normal.

On Wednesday Holly, Beth and myself headed to Wales for a client meeting. It was really nice to be able to meet one of the clients I will be working with and to visit their office and warehouse.

Thursday and Friday were  work from home days, so I’ve been busy getting on with some of the tasks I was set at the start of the week, including another press release and product outreach to journalists.

I honestly don’t know where two weeks have gone, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It has been a fantastic start to my career with Honest and I can’t wait to delve deeper into the world of PR and progress further.
